Halving EU food waste would reduce an estimated 44 MILLION TONNES of food waste. Why does that matter?

There are about 55 million people in food poverty in Europe – and the food wasted throughout the continent could feed them over 9 times over.

Globally, if food waste was a country, it would be the third biggest carbon emitter after the US and China.

Water used to grow food that’s wasted globally would be enough for the household water needs of 9 billion people.

This is Rubbish have been tirelessly campaigning to halve EU food waste, from farm to fork. We’re so close to achieving a historic victory. But so far we’ve been running the campaign completely unfunded out of the passion for it, and we’re now faced with the huge challenge of winning over the European Council and Commission – we did it with the European Parliament, but we’ll need your help to cross the finishing line! Please donate to help us swing this decision, and halve EU food waste!

We achieve a lot with the resource we have. So far on zero budget, completely unfunded, This Is Rubbish have achieved:

55 organisations in 18 EU countries backing the campaign

Over 75,000 people have signed our Change.org and Global Citizen petitions, with 1000s taking email and twitter actions

Major win with European Parliament supporting our demands for farm-to-fork targets to halve EU food waste by 2030

Media coverage in the Guardian, Euractiv, The Grocer and Radio 4.
